I wanted to like this place but I really can’t recommend it. The staff were very nice and helpful but the actual hotel is just terrible. The room doesn’t have a fridge or any large table to lay out my clothes when putting together my suit for the wedding I was attending. Also, the clothing rack is in the bathroom. I didn’t feel like risking getting my suit steamed so I had to hang it from my bed frame. This is pretty subjective but the bed was itchy and uncomfortable as well. The worst of it was the room keys. I’m not exaggerating that my room key stopped working and needed to be replaced as I was locked out SIX TIMES. The only reason I am giving 2 stars is that the people were nice and don’t deserve it that. The location is solid and the aesthetic is great but wow this place needs a lot of modernization. Go anywhere else. Edit: I also remembered later they didn’t even have house keeping make the bed while I was out.

Hands down the worst of all the Ascend hotels. Its bare essentials. Parking sucked! Had to park on the street. No secured parking, most of the ascend properties have gated or garage parking. Beds were worn down like cheap motel 6 singles. The covers and bedsheets felt like they are decades old. The rooms are historic and yes some are small rooms. No frig in the room. Small flat screen tv maybe 38 in. Bathroom toilet was clogged and had to have front desk to fix it. We expected noise due to the location but on a Monday morning 2am-6am with constant chatter was unreal. We will never stay here again. I feel sorry for the people who work at this hotel. Ascend can do so much better. The front desk people were so nice trying to fix everything. Corporate needs to make some changes.

I recommend this hotel as an excellent value. It's got an interesting history and a beautiful lobby, and the rooms are clean and pleasant. Mine was a decent size as well -- I was expecting a very small room, but it was average sized. Most importantly (for me), the location is excellent. For the price, this is a really good deal. Things it did not have: an in-room microwave or refrigerator, and most importantly, no parking. That last one was the only major drawback I noticed -- you have to park several blocks away in a public lot or pay at a street meter. I was only there for one night, so it wasn't that big a problem for me, but both their lack of parking and their lack of interest in their lack of parking would have bothered me if I had been staying longer. That said, overall, this is an interesting, historic hotel in a great location and is in genereal an excellent deal.

I would have given one star, however, the people who work here were very nice and helpful. Unfortunately, the rooms are very outdated which would have been fine if they were maintained. The bathroom was absolutely filthy and looked like it hadn’t been mopped in months. I understand they are going for a historic look, but at least keep it clean. My friends stayed here as well and had an ant issue. I also had an issue with the toilet clogging/overflowing all over the bathroom floor. It was even more disgusting because when the floor got wet you could really see how dirty the floor was, the towels were covered in dirt after cleaning the water off the floor. I bet that was the most those floors have seen in terms of cleaning in years. Don’t recommend this place if you are looking for a hotel that is clean and comfortable.
